So, today the movie version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy opens. If you're a geek like me and you enjoyed the thoroughly satirical and irreverent book by Douglas Adams, you might be worried about how a Hollywood version of this British gem will stand up. Don't panic, though. The Times and the Washington Post both liked it and said that its divergences from the book are in keeping with the spirit of the series. Phew.
Also, I think the casting is inspired. Martin Freeman, whom you may remember as Tim from the original The Office series, plays every man Arthur Dent. And Alan Rickman as the voice of chronically depressed robot Marvin? Perfect!
I hope to see it this weekend, in which case you can expect a full report next week.
